Targeting Right While Making Business Decisions!
I once showed half a glass cup of water in a business class and asked a question …IS THIS GLASS HALF FULL OR HALF EMPTY?
Some said it was half full and gave their valid reasons…others said it was half empty and gave their reasons why. A young man curiously raised his hands and said … “I think you need to tell us what we are to do with the water.......do you want it finished or the glass filled with it”… and that started our class
How does one measure business growth? Agreed every viable business today must have one goal! Profitability and Productivity.
A school of thought would say revenue growth would be a viable way of measuring business growth; however it has been proven that many businesses can have revenue growth and not have surviving profits , you may even have performing staff who are not productive….How can we tell the difference?
What business owners and seasoned managers today must understand is that defining your target for productivity per time is absolutely essential, to know when you have gotten there.
For some businesses while considering their path to higher revenues, having better structures; whether in quality delivery or stronger people structures might be an indication of better productivity. Another business would have to attend to its costs which have boomed since the recession, even though it has maintained its existing customer base. Others may have wonderful products but still have to ask THE dreaded question everyday of 'who will patronize us" ....
The point is, your ability to measure your business growth must be based on SET business targets per time; tying growth to only revenue generation might not be a good indication or measure for a healthy business growth. Many times our ability to grow the business will be hinged to better performance in one or more areas...but it gets muddy when we don't know where to start measuring from.
SO! set the most crucial targets and measure it each day! OR How else can you know if your business glass is truly half filled or half empty…

4 年@Eniola Oru. From my Perspective, it's half Full(The word "Empty" translates to Nothing in a Plain Word's.) How one See's the Content is more of a function of One's Analytical Knowledge and how Emotionally intelligent She/He is. If it's half empty, She/He assumes the water in the cup would eventually dry up(Perspective's) but Half full,She/He See's and assumes the Cup can be refilled from the Source,Getting it done(Perspective's) But the most important thing in the question asked is the fact that there is water in the glass "Half Full"/"Half Empty"(only brings One's Perception in to Play).???????????
