Light is electromagnetic radiation that can be felt by the human eye. Light consists of Photons (Energy Particles without mass) travelling in the form of waves at different speeds. The speed of photons (Speed of light is 186,282 miles per second) make the light appear in different colors while travelling through various mediums.
Entire Light can be summed up in three things Glare, Color temperature and Color rendering index (CRI) from security perspective. The color temperature of the light would set up the outlook of the surrounding whereas CRI would give an exact representation of the scene and Glare would decide how we would see the object.
?Glare
?Glare is a visual sensation which is beyond limits one can stand. Excessive amount of brightness in the field of view is the root cause of Glare. It limits the ability to distinguish details and objects hence a major shortcoming to security. Sensitivity towards glare varies in people, older people are usually more sensitive. Glare can be direct or indirect where direct is caused by light source emitting rays and Indirect is by reflection of light by any surface,

?Color Temperature
?Color temperature?describes the color of a?visible light?source by comparing it to the light emitted?by an?opaque or non-reflective body. The temperature of the ideal emitter that matches the color most closely is defined as the color temperature of the original visible light source. Color temperature is measured in?kelvins.

Color Rendering Index
?Color rendering index as the name suggests is an Index measured against a score of 100 CRI is the ability of light to reflect the true color of the object in the scene. A score of 100 indicates a perfect score, while a score of 0 is a poor indicator .CRI of around 80-90 is considered as good. Pressurized sodium and mercury vapor light sources score low on CRI values. Under low-pressure sodium there may be a change in the colors they appear on the VMS screen.

We shall dwell in detail on the above in coming discussions .
