A glance at new consumption patterns of seafood in the US and their impact on pricing

The new edition takes place in an expectant market with price decreases in the main seafood species in recent months.

The webinar will focus on the changes experienced by salmon consumption in the third quarter of this year, and the influence of this behavior on product prices. The analysis is particularly important in an environment where prices of major seafood products have recently shown a negative trend in several regions.

In the previous Webinar (July 2023), the role of inflation, although it was showing downward signs, along with a decrease in the purchasing power of consumers, showed that nearly 93% of American citizens made at least one change in their supermarket purchases, and almost 40% of them had decreased the number of online purchases (deliveries) and/or visits to restaurants.?

Salmon showed signs of moderation, since the fresh fish category - including this product - hardly increased in price this Q2/23; registering an increase of only 1.2% for this specie. Not so in the frozen category, given the change in the consumption pattern, which showed an increase of 5.1% in the previous quarter.

In this version for the third quarter of the year 2023, Roerink will analyze how the aforementioned factors are related together with new findings and externalities of the current period, to provide a complete salmon/seafood consumption profile and the projection of this segment in the North American industry.
