GIVING WITHOUT EXPECTING!!
Staging a comeback in corporate after many years was a new chapter in my life. I was interviewed virtually and selected by the head of the HR function whom I call ‘Sir Ji’ with all due respect. At the very first sight, I was very much impressed by his stance, vision and knowledge as he explained to me the plans for the new position. I was very much thrilled about the new role as I yearned to learn about the new developments in the mighty ocean. My excitement turned a bit down, as I got to know that our locations would not be the same and I could hardly meet ‘Sir Ji’ in person. After the onboarding, I even expressed my blues about not being able to interact with him in person, for which he said he will be visiting different locations during the year. I took this very seriously and started following up with him with one only question regularly – When are you coming down Sir Ji?
Our virtual interactions continued and we started building a strong rapport. Most of my interactions with him were for sanctions, permissions and requests which were all affirmative without a second thought in the mind. His inputs were truly helping me grow as a true professional.
After a couple of months, my prayer was answered and ‘Sir Ji’ was in my office with a broad smile and control shake hand he said – “Finally we meet in person!”
I was so glad to receive him as I could see the positivity surpassing around. Much to my surprise, there was a gift hamper waiting on my table which was the moment of the day for me. What a way to leave a permanent impression in the employee’s minds! Giving without expecting – an act of being selfless and a lesson for me too to continue this noble gesture. As I introspect the relationship with my higher-up today my memories sprint back to my childhood days – the golden days!
Childhood memories are always an evergreen episode in everyone’s life. For most of the people of my generation, the retentions of childhood were incomplete without elements like – fun playing out in the sun, infamous games which were unique to a particular locality, distinctive cricket games leading to fights and arguments, and the list goes on and on. I am very sure that most of you here will agree with this statement.
But, for me, all these were incomplete without one character whom we call ‘Grandmother‘. I used to call her Amai and she was the best soul I had ever seen. She had all the love, care and also discipline to mould us to fit into society. She knew what was required for me and before I could ask for anything – be it food, snacks, books, stationery, toys and anything you ask - it would be always ready for me without any condition. Though she had the very minimum education she had the unbeatable skills to identify what her children and grandchildren would long for and that according to me is the finest quality for an individual to be valued as a human being. Again - Giving without expecting!

As I write this article I remember and thank all my ‘superiors at work’ who have helped me shape into what I am today. Their giving without expecting has not only described their magnanimity but also set an example for me to follow the same.
Remember - to give away is good. To give away without expecting anything in return is paramount!
(A note of thanks to all my mentors – Prof. B.M Hegde for providing all the inputs for personal and mental stability,? Bharath V for displaying how to handle the most difficult situation with a smile, Raja kg for guiding me on how to be quick and affirmative during decision-making, Subramanya Ramakrishna for boosting my communication dexterity, Ruchir Anand for instilling the fearless attitude in me, Neeraj Rana for leading me towards more brilliance and SACHINDRA PANDI for being my support system throughout.)
KEEP LEARNING…..KEEP GROWING!
