Giving Thanks

Giving Thanks

My favorite holiday, it’s nearly here - Thanksgiving.

No costumes required, no presents needed, no fireworks planned. The only expectation for Thanksgiving is that you arrive hungry and grateful. While some of us will need to deal with the hassle of travel (personally, I’m always happy to drive a long way for some good stuffing!), the beauty of this holiday is its simplicity: gather with family and friends to eat, drink and give thanks.

In a very busy world, Thanksgiving forces us to slow down and reflect on the benefits we’ve been given. Even more, it prompts us to actually express our gratitude to those people who we may otherwise take for granted.

What I’ll be doing on Thursday, and what I’d encourage you to do as well, is focus both on what and who you’re grateful for. And given how much of our waking life is spent at work, when thinking about the “who” be sure to include your colleagues. Because at work, any success we have or happiness we experience is highly correlated to the people who surround us. As the saying goes – “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it with.”

Without the ideas, engagement and energy of others, work quickly loses its purpose. So, remember to give thanks to your team, your peers and, yes, maybe even your demanding boss.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Yes, “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it with.” Those people who help you and inspire you need to be thanked.

Thanksgiving aside, the fact that your work environment has an influence on your productivity, mood, and general work life is undeniable. A positive work environment can defeat many more obstacles. It's highly motivating to be part of such a team. Happy Thanksgiving!
