Giving a hug instead of letting go

Giving a hug instead of letting go

“Service providers pushing past standard service offering with Whole Home Meshed WiFi and owning the customer experience.”

Demarcation (def): the action of fixing the boundary or limits of something.

The “demarcation point" is a vernacular you learn very quickly in the communication service provider business. It's that line in the sand for homes and businesses where communication service providers tell you that your services have been delivered (physically) and they are ready for use. It has often been the finish line for provisioning and the final touch point for support. Once you’ve verified service to that point with certainty – it’s time to take a deep breath and say, “You are on your way, Mr. and Mrs. Customer – good luck.”

However, the demarcation point has been getting blurry with the advancement of technology and usage to the point where even the idea of a demarcation point is just noise in the context of customer satisfaction. Wireless technology mainly has been driving operators to either specifically include WiFi service in most of the bundled offerings (package in the WiFi router) or provide support teams to field problems and work with customer-purchased routers. Why? Because nobody cares about delivering tremendous amounts of bandwidth if the usability is limited or simply unusable. An evolution has been underway – but it has become brutally obvious at this point – that getting every bit and byte of bandwidth to the device that’s delivering that movie, game, chat, video call, and so on is paramount to the customer experience.

And there’s the new challenge for communication service providers – crossing that cavernous traditional physical demarcation point in the home. All the while, it should do it in a way that delivers seamlessly uninterrupted WiFi to any device anywhere, and at the level of quality and manageability of all of its other service offerings.

Introducing Portal with Service Control.

The idea of having a high end meshed wireless solution and not have to compromise on serviceability and troubleshooting capabilities has been a pipe dream for communication service providers. Many traditional solutions available today start with a basic router and/or a modem with limited coverage, and often leave the customer to fend for themselves. These same customers tend to run out and buy a higher-end product when their needs exceed what the communication service provider is willing to initially supply.

Gamers’ performance demands have consistently outpaced many of the traditional broadband offers. Portal is designed with the gamer in mind as well as all the other equally important content platforms like YouTube, Netflix and Amazon. Some meshed solutions have taken a more shotgun approach with a whole bunch of repeaters placed through-out the house to try and get coverage only to create a more complex system to manage and hogging all those electrical outlets. The Portal’s approach is different utilizing a radio subsystem (third radio) to sense and organize traffic to broaden coverage and enhance performance.

A Single Portal can be used as standalone premium AP router with full-time MC-ZWDFS capability and covering up to 3,000 sq ft. Two Portals can form a Wi-Fi mesh network and with its advanced SON (Self Organizing Network) cover an additional 6,000 sq ft. This offers greater flexibility for communication service providers who can now include a premium router for most of their service area and simply add another AP for homes that are larger. This helps with retrieving and repurposing the assets as well as calming down customers who are watching their electrical outlets become unnecessarily occupied throughout the house.

So now there is truly is a high-end carrier grade Whole Home Meshed WiFi solution available with the operator in mind. It includes TR-069/098/111 and TR-068 compliance for hassle-free setup and configuration and provides operator command overrides to assist in all types of troubleshooting scenarios.

In the end it’s about much more than just covering square footage when it comes to a Premium Meshed WiFi Router and this product delivers that “much more” and then some. If you would like more information on Portal please reach out to me.

What a unique idea! I am always a big fan of service providers who go above and beyond. The key to this is teaming with exceptional manufacturing that allows service providers to be the best that they can be. You have hit a home run!

As a technology upgrade integrator I love the idea of being constantly connected. If does have some drawbacks in personal life as we have become a head down society for the most part as young and old are addicted to there devices. Our favorite beach we go to has always had spotty coverage and my wife loved that I was disconnected from work completely. As of our visit this year that all changed. Small cell nodes have my phone service much better even at the beach. WiMAX in the entertainment district had all of us constantly connected. It was finally decided to only use our phones for phone calls and all other devices were put up. This was a peaceful week even including bored young ones who were forced to use their minds to play and get active. We should all take some time and disconnect for awhile - it is an amazing experience.
