Giving Days Year-on-Year: Tired or Tried & Tested?

Giving Days Year-on-Year: Tired or Tried & Tested?

Charidy Australia-New Zealand has been partnering with schools and NFPs on the implementation of Giving Days since mid-2016, during which time we have established and cultivated ongoing relationships with many across both sectors for whom these Charidy Giving Days have grown into an annual staple in their calendars. This raises questions amongst those considering their first or followup Giving Days around how well the Charidy Giving Day model works years later. The Charidy Giving Day model has proven to be successful in the long term, with many organisations continuing to utilise it as an annual fundraising event. Charidy Australia-New Zealand has seen continued success with NFPs and schools that have adopted this model over the years, and their ongoing partnerships speak to the effectiveness of the Charidy Giving Day model.

One reason why the Charidy Giving Day model has been successful in the long term is because of the emphasis on donor engagement. The model involves a 24-hour fundraising period where donors can contribute to a specific cause or organisation. During this time, donors are encouraged to give and are updated on the progress of the campaign through social media, email, and other communication channels. This sense of urgency and community involvement creates a sense of excitement and momentum that often drives up donation amounts.

Furthermore, Charidy Giving Days are structured around the idea of Matched Giving which entails the use of Matching Gifts secured from individuals, philanthropists, corporate partners and foundations to “Double, Triple, or Quadruple” the effect of every gift on the day. This incentive has proven to be effective in motivating donors to give more, as they know their donation will go twice as far. Additionally, the Charidy Giving Day model incorporates a shared, communal campaign goal, which creates a tangible benchmark for donors to work towards. The Charidy Giving Day model is also flexible, which allows organisations to adapt and tailor it to their specific needs. Charidy Australia-New Zealand works with organisations to design campaigns that are unique and compelling to their donors, helping to ensure that their campaigns resonate with their supporters. This customisation, combined with the already-proven success of the Charidy Giving Day model, means that organisations can implement a Giving Day that is both effective and tailored to their specific fundraising goals.

Another factor contributing to the continued success of the Charidy Giving Day model is the support provided by Charidy. Our team provides resources and guidance throughout the entire fundraising process, from campaign strategy to donor outreach to post-campaign follow-up. This support is critical in ensuring that organisations can execute successful campaigns that yield maximum results. As year-on-year Giving Days continue, our partner-organisations require different kinds of support and the flexibility of our team helps to ensure that our long-term partners continue to feel supported.

Finally, Charidy Giving Days have a lasting impact beyond just the 24-hour fundraising period. Organisations that have implemented Giving Days report increased donor engagement, as well as increased donor retention in the long term. This is because the Giving Day model fosters a sense of community and collaboration between donors, supporters, and the organisation. Donors are invested in the success of the campaign and feel a sense of ownership over the cause they are supporting, which encourages continued involvement and support beyond the Giving Day itself.

In conclusion, the Charidy Giving Day model has proven to be successful not only in the short term but also in the long term. Charidy Australia-New Zealand has established ongoing partnerships with many NFPs and schools that utilise this model as an annual fundraising event. The emphasis on donor engagement, matching grants, flexibility, and support provided by Charidy Australia-New Zealand, as well as the lasting impact of Giving Days, all contribute to the continued success of the Charidy Giving Day model. As organisations and schools consider implementing a Giving Day, the proven effectiveness and ongoing success of this model make it a compelling option for their fundraising efforts.

My experience is that people will give if they see how it makes a direct difference. Having been involved in a few giving days I am always surprised how well they do. It's the tangibility that matters
