Most people know they need to get their car’s oil changed and replace their furnace’s air filter routinely to keep those systems healthy, yet many leaders don’t take that same approach to their leadership.
But prevention can be beneficial to leadership assessment too.
Often people are asked to see a coach or participate in a 360-degree assessment when troubles surface.
Yet, time and money (not to mention headaches) could be saved if leaders underwent thorough assessments before challenges arose.
Therefore ask the people and your team members around you for feedback about what is working and what is not.
Be sure you understand their expectations and where you may not be meeting them.
Having a complete understanding of where you are as a leader gives you a greater sense of control and power to shape your future.
We should give ourselfs a preventive leadership assessment. Provide to yourself regular preventive leadership care.
