"Give yourself permission to get smarter." ?What I love about this phrase is that it gives us an opportunity to grow. It means that we don't have to keep doing something the way we have always done it because we are allowed to get smarter. It also means that we don't have to look back with embarrassment when we reflect on the ways we have done it before because we are smarter now than we were then.
This little phrase gives you the freedom to look back without shame or regret, and at the same time, it also gives you permission to move forward differently. It is the way that you can give yourself the space to experiment with new approaches and develop your skills without fear.
If you allow yourself to get smarter, then you don’t have to do things the way they’ve always been done by you or by anyone else. You can look at “the way” as a starting point and then adapt based on what will work best right now. If something different works better, then you can chalk it up to being smarter than you were the last time, and if it doesn’t, you can tell yourself that you will learn from the situation to be smarter the next time.

Conversely, if, like many high achieving people, you sometimes feel shame or embarrassment when you look back at some of your work from very early in your career and wonder why you did what you did, release yourself of that and understand that you did the best with what you had at the time. It’s expected that you wouldn’t always make the same decisions today; you are smarter now. As a matter of fact, if you weren’t smarter now, you would’ve been wasting a lot of time between then and now. You aren’t the same person you were before. We all grow; we all evolve. We have to. You can’t unsee and unhear things that you encounter throughout your life and your career, and each helps to shape your future perspective in so many ways. The first time you learn something is the first time you know it. And once you know it, you are obligated to grow.
As we kick off 2025, I would love to help you (and your team) get smarter about how you work and approach career development, so I am running a New Year's Special on my books. If you want to buy any of my books in bulk (mix and match), I will give you a discount! ?All you have to do it email/text/message me and we will coordinate the purchase and shipping (and they will all be signed).

1 个月I once heard that if you don't get smarter, you're actively getting dumber. Not sure I like how that sounds, but definitely keeps my drive for learning front of mind!! Cheers to 2025!
