Give your best, recieve the best!
I don’t think anyone wants to go back professionally or technically. We’re always trying to be better. The point is we all have some obstacles along the way. But is it really that all these obstacles exist? And even if they exist, if we start to give as much of we can we’ll inevitably start getting better.
The point I want to get is if you or I make the most of our tasks, we will start getting noticed in a much better way. So I would like to talk about some points that always help me as a developer and that can help you too.
What was requested is very little, delivered more than that
As a developer, there’ll always be deadlines and deliveries. The best you can do is always deliver something above what was ordered. Just look at what is being developed and try to imagine what feedback will be for what you’re doing. It’ll be “You did a good job, thank you.”? Well, it would be so much better if it was “Thank you so much! You did a lot more than we were hoping for.”
Growing up is very good, growing up in a group is even better.
If you develop every day and you are not progressing technically you’re certainly doing something wrong. Technical progress is unavoidable and this will be reflected in your deliveries but much better than this is to disseminate your knowledge. Whenever you can share what you are learning with the people around you, rather than you become better alone, you are making a whole team better. And you can be sure the satisfaction of growing alone is good but growing along with whoever is with you every day is much greater.
Why are you doing this?
If you stop to tell, how much time do you spend working? Assuming you sleep an average of 8 hours. You only have 16 active hours in the day. And from these 16 hours, you spend 8 working. So theoretically you spend half of your active life working, and for what? Why stay so long in your life doing something? Just for the money? You have to find some value to it. Finding this value and chasing it is paramount. Our focus, concentration and even our capacity go much further when we stop going to work thinking about going home and start working wanting to always seek the best for our final customer or our company even for our selfs.
I hope something useful can come out of this text. If so do not hesitate to comment.
Thank you very much,
