Give Your 2025, An Agile Makeover??

Give Your 2025, An Agile Makeover??

Hi Partner! Happy new week?? I trust that this week, you will do all the things you set out to do.

In the last article, I shared with you how agile teams utilize retrospectives to continuously improve their work over and over again. I also gave you some tips on how you can adopt what you have learnt from agile teams, to supercharge your own goal setting. As your accountability partner, I would like to know, did you a chance to practice what you have learnt? Please share with me in the comment section or send me a dm!

I am happy to report that I did the assignment. Below are some of my answers to the first two retrospective questions:

  1. What did I like about my 2024? - My commitment to learning in the last 4 months of the year (I earned my Google Project Management Professional Certificate, became an Asana Certified Workflow Specialist, completed a 6-week hands on Project Management Bootcamp, an 8-week virtual assistant training, a 6-week ai career essentials training and joined a freelancer career coaching community.) - My courage to quit a job I was no longer happy in. - My consistency in my upskilling journey. - The growth mindset and can - do attitude I embodied. - The growth in my faith and relationship with God.
  2. What did I learn? - Clarity only comes to those who take action not those who wait for it. The more you keep moving forward, the more things become clearer. - Whatever decision you make has a price. Never make a decision whose price you are not ready to pay. - You cannot micro-manage life. It will unfold however it wants, your only job is to intentionally show up every day and be present in the moment. - Dreams come to life by design, not by accident. Every day you have to intentionally create the life of your dream. - Self-care and rest must be prioritized.

As I worked through the retrospective questions from my last article, I had an illuminating realization: applying agile principles to personal goal setting isn’t just useful—it’s transformative. The power of this approach goes beyond simply using agile practices like retrospectives; it lies in fully embracing the agile mindset to fuel personal growth.

An agile mindset means valuing adaptability, continuous learning, collaboration, and welcoming change as a constant. It shifts how we approach challenges—seeing obstacles not as roadblocks but as opportunities to refine our strategies and evolve. By iterating on our plans, seeking feedback, and remaining flexible, we create a system that not only helps us reach our goals but makes the journey more intentional and fulfilling.

Now that we’ve established the power of the agile mindset, how can you apply it to your own personal growth? Here are four actionable ways to make agility your superpower:

1. Embrace Iteration Over Perfection

Traditional goal setting often focuses on rigid, long-term plans that don’t account for change. Instead of waiting for the perfect time to start, take small, consistent actions, evaluate your progress, and adjust as needed. Progress compounds over time, and the more you iterate, the better you become.

2. Prioritize Flexibility & Continuous Learning

An agile mindset is all about adaptability. Life will throw curveballs, and your ability to pivot without losing momentum is key. Set learning goals alongside achievement goals—because growth isn’t just about what you accomplish but also about who you become in the process.

3. Make Feedback Your Best Friend

Seek feedback—not just from others but from yourself. Regularly reflect on what’s working and what’s not. Hold personal retrospectives at the end of each quarter, just like agile teams do at the end of a sprint. Use your insights to refine your approach, ensuring that every step forward is more effective than the last.

4. Leverage the Power of Collaboration

Growth doesn’t happen in isolation. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who challenge, support, and inspire you. Engage in meaningful conversations, share your experiences, and learn from others. The best insights often come from collaborative environments where diverse perspectives push you to think bigger.

At the heart of it all, adopting an agile mindset means giving yourself permission to evolve. It’s about stepping away from rigid, traditional goal-setting that often leads to frustration and embracing a system that allows for growth, flexibility, and continuous improvement.

So, partner, are you ready to shift the way you approach your goals? Drop a comment or send me a message—I’d love to hear how you’re giving your 2025 an agile makeover!

Welcome to your year of adaptability, learning, and intentional retrospectives. Let’s grow together. ????
