So on International Women’s Day this week, I reflected on how my business has evolved to not only focus on directly empowering and impacting women’s lives, but indirectly too, through the ripple effect of my work in sustainability.

I had an amazing time at the London College of Fashion panel event 'Is Fashion's Future Secondhand?' this week in Stratford. It's a HUGE subject, but one that I'm so passionate about. For the positive impact on people and planet.

One key point was - can we challenge ALL consumers to make their wardrobes at least 25% secondhand? Because despite the fact that we are doing more in selling and buying on Vinted and Charity Shops, a lot of new product is still being produced. As consumers we need to vote with our wallets to reduce that overproduction and focus our purchases on secondhand. What % of your wardrobe do you think is secondhand? And do you always shop secondhand first when looking for something 'new'?

Sunday Style Scoop

A snapshot of a mini capsule wardrobe I created for my client this week out on a Personal Speed Shop at John Lewis in Welwyn.

My client chose the location, as although sustainability was an important consideration for her, she was looking to buy something new. I had a brief to add some more colour, interest and style into my client's wardrobe for smart casual looks which would work for casual or work occasions. I loved these 6 items which she ended up with (plus some white Ted Baker trainers), as she will be able to mix and match these in her wardrobe, everything had a focus on comfort AND style.

These picks worked because they spoke to her natural and classic style personality, but pushed her out of her comfort zone with more colour, print, texture and detail. She had become a bit stuck in a rut of neutrals and hadn't bought anything since pre covid. It was so much fun to bring some excitement back into her style and give her more confidence in how to wear things.

My mum sent me this article from The Guardian this week, as she knows I'm a massive Iris Apfel fan and my LOVE of colour! It shares colourful style of several creatives and influencers and why they love colour, and how they interpret it in their wardrobes. It's all about dopamine dressing, and the power of colour to lift your mood. France Ultra Fast Fashion Tax

In France, Fashion brands with ultra fast product turnover such as Shein, could be subject to penalties of up to 50% of their garments selling price to offset their environmental impact, after a French majority ruling. These companies are deemed to be the ones inciting excessive spending and unnecessary pollution through their practices. As a side note: I was also shocked to learn this week that the average Shein consumer is a woman in her 30's earning $60K+, spending $100's of dollars a month with the company. I'm pretty shocked and appalled by that statistic, how about you?
