Give them a moment

Hi,
Let’s face it.
For many leaders, a presentation is a task they “have to get done”.
That’s why when they’re up there on stage or in front of the camera…
They often just want to get through with their speech.
Sound familiar?
Here’s the thing…
That’s a recipe for disaster.
You see, you may craft your message really well…
And you could even practise various techniques in your delivery...
But because you want to finish your presentation asap, chances are that you’ll forget one thing:
The art of pausing.
I’m sure you know what you’re talking about.
So, why is pausing important?
It’s because, during your presentation, it’ll be the first time your audience will hear your speech.
That means if you want them to really understand your message…
They need to be able to keep up.
Now, you might want to get through your presentation quickly, but don’t forget the main goal:
To bring your audience INTO your presentation.
So, be mindful of where they might be.
If you’ve explained some concepts, give them a moment to absorb them.
And if you’ve said a joke, allow them to laugh.

One other way to introduce a pause to your speech is to ask questions.
See, asking your audience something allows them to engage with you.
You could ask for a show of hands or for a specific answer, it’s up to you.
And it doesn’t matter if someone responds or not…
Either way, you will have achieved your goal of giving them a few moments to think.
Remember, mastering the art of pausing will keep your audience engaged.
And an engaged audience is more likely to get on board with your message.
I hope it can help you with your future presentations.
You can try this, and lots of other tools, with me in the Rehearsal Room.
