SCRUM AT THE CROSSROADS: The 2024 Give Thanks for Scrum Conference Event

CHANGE. It’s the constant.
?
Scrum became a thing around 1996. That was over 30 years ago. Scrum pre-dated the Agile Manifesto, which was created on 2001.
That was a long, long time ago.
Lately, people in ‘agile’ roles are reporting some very big changes. What are these changes?
1. Employees in agile roles are being laid off by large companies
2. Consultants & coaches are reporting big problems finding steady engagements
3. “Agile” is being subsumed into the Product function in large companies
4. Millions of “agile is dead” essays are appearing everywhere. Take a look here: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ftsa&q=agile+dead&ia=web)
?
And so. Here we are. Is it over? Is Scrum yesterday’s news?
The backdrop- the context of this shift- is an acceleration of change across the entire earth.
The advent of AI.
Huge changes in migration, population, and politics in the Western world.
Polarization. Pandemics. The impact of technology on society and business, especially the impact of social media.
The acceptance of empirical process control.
Work-from-home; “remote work.”
?
All these HUGE changes. Reflected in what is now common language:
?
“MVP.”
“Validated learning.”
“Pivot.” “Scrum.”
“Sprint.”
“Retrospective.”
“Product Owner.”

These terms are all now in very common use. Yet Scrum itself has failed to truly penetrate the silos, the bureaucracy, and the power structure of organizations struggling with change.
?
Why? THAT is one of the big questions we will answer at the 16th annual GIVE THANKS FOR SCRUM event held in the Boston area during the week of the USA Thanksgiving. It’s taking place on Tuesday, November 26 in Burlington MA. Tickets right now are just sixty bucks and that price includes your lunch. Jeff Sutherland will be there and so will Dave West, CEO of Scrum.Org. And you are invited.
?
This year’s event is highly participatory. We plan to kick it off in an Open Space. Our theme is “The Future of Scrum ?” Lunch follows, then the keynote presentations, then a summary Q&A panel discussion. This is an opportunity to greatly enjoy yourself, as you convene & connect with your people. Make new friends, sustain your links with older friends, and get together to discuss what’s next.?
For you.
For Scrum.
For the business you work in.
For the USA and in fact the entire world.
Scrum is at a crossroads. What’s the future of Scrum? Please join us as we pull together the Scrum community of the Boston area and address the question. Here's some links for you:

2 个月Future and scrum strike me as perfect components for an oxymoron
Is it time to band together scrum dot org, scrum Inc, the agile alliance, the scrum alliance, ICAgile and other such organizations to establish a true profession of some sort?
Scrum Master/Project Manager coaching and servant leading teams in designing and deploying technical solutions to drive internal productivity and performance
