Give me a B E S T!!! Go……Team!

Give me a B! Give me an E! Give me an S! Give me a T!

What’s that spell? Best! Best!

Put us to the test!

We won’t give ’em a rest!

Don’t you just love watching cheerleaders? The energy they bring and sustain throughout a game is amazing. Regardless of how the game is going, these cheerleaders show up and keep on motivating their team. And sometimes, that's all a losing team needs to turn the game around.

Have you begun thinking about who would make your squad list? Or perhaps you already picked them out and moved on? Or are you wondering: "Squad? What squad? What on earth is she going on about?

Well, over the last three weeks, we have been taking a look at cheer squads. I started out by explaining why you need a cheer squad in this new year instead of lone-ranging all the way through. Next we looked at some important cheer-attitudes necessary to have to even consider putting together a squad and last week, we examined how you can put together your squad as well as some skills and eligibility requirements.

I can just here you think: "Wait what? Skills and eligibility requirements"? And here you were thinking this was a 'chill' article rather than a 'serious' one. I do apologize, human resources and recruitment have been a big part of my career and so I cannot help but use such un-cool terms!

Anyways, if you missed any of those posts, you may want to check them out here.

?Now that you're up to speed, let's consider two ways in which this cheer squad can function effectively.

“Cheer Attitude – You mess with me, you mess with the whole squad.”

Team work: Just like cheer leaders do not function in silos but are able to lean into the team to work together, so it would be important for your cheer squad to help one another. We looked at the referral multiplier effect as one of the ways in which you and your team can help each other win (That was in part one of the series). What could this look like on a day-to-day basis? Recommending someone for a job, introducing two people, sharing a meaningful article to that friend about an interest area etc… That's what having each other's back is all about. If someone messes with you, they mess with the whole squad!

Grit: Your cheer squad will definitely benefit from having grit. Stamina. The drive that makes you keep pushing until you breakthrough. The determination that breaks glass ceilings and makes unconventional strides never ever thought possible. I find that a lot of times, while it may be difficult for people to encourage and urge themselves on, they are able to do this for someone else. Maybe because we do not believe in our dreams or abilities as much as we believe in the dreams of those around us. So being in the position to encourage someone and getting encouragement from your squad can be very beneficial.

Trust: This is one that should go without saying. Without trust, cheerleaders will end up sprawled on the floor with broken limbs, all of the time. This is one necessity that cannot be over-emphasized. You must learn to trust that your squad has got your interests at heart and it starts by being someone who can be trusted. Do people trust you? Can you be trusted by those you do life with? Or are people wary of you? You've got to be that person that people know, will always have their back. And eventually, you have got to start trusting people once again.

I could name a few more but I'd rather someone else shares what they think are ways in which your cheer squad can function effectively.

Do have an amazing week!

Great article, Ann Ayinde, CCS?I do believe Trust is the greatest of these elements, the very foundation that ensures great teamwork and promotes grit in a squad. From personal experience, trust, once broken is veeery difficult to fix. The hard truth is, you can be the most amazing person, however, there will always be that person who cannot be trusted, and they are in your squad. What do you do then? It beats me all the time.
