Give Me An Audience...Any Audience

Give Me An Audience...Any Audience

One of the downsides to being a speaker’s coach is that I’ve had to train myself to just sit back and enjoy what a speaker is saying rather than analysing their presentation.

A tough ask but I’m working on it.

I used to be the same watching netball games. Having umpired at the top level, for many years I found it difficult to sit back and just enjoy the game without looking for the mistakes the players and umpires made.

When you know what to look for, it is impossible not to notice.

Like netball, most speakers don’t know they are making mistakes.

And if they don’t receive professional feedback (like an umpire)…they aren’t able to correct their mistakes.

It seems everyone with a product to sell or service to offer is now on the speaking trail. Which makes a lot of sense as it gets you in front of more people who might want your product or service. The problem is though, many of these speakers come to me for coaching after they have realised (and were disappointed) the presentation they gave didn’t produce the results they were after.

Let me reveal the secret of the three magic words I share with my clients. Once you master these, you will be able to create fabulous presentations/workshops/courses in under an hour.

So simple…they are…

  • Why?
  • What?
  • How?

And yes…they need to be developed in that order.

In the next three Confident Public Speaking Secret emails, I’ll share ideas on how to create the one hour presentation using this simple concept.

Remember…

  1. To delve deep into your Why
  2. To be seen as the expert with a considered What
  3. To create a plan for your How

Best wishes till next time.

Absolutely agree and yes I have the same issue when listening to speakers - have to really think about stepping back and just enjoying the presentation
