Give Jimmy his gong!

Until about a week ago what I knew about the footballer Jimmy Grieves could have been written on the back of a postage stamp and … still had enough room for my name and address.

But all that started to change recently as the campaign for a gong gathered pace ahead of his 80th Birthday last Thursday.

So, get this. The guy is 80 years old and still holds the record for most goals scored in top-flight English football!

Defenders would describe the situation as having him in their pockets for 89 minutes only to find they’d lost to two quick goals conjured up out of nowhere.

But, paradoxically, a well know teammate described him (very good-naturedly) as the laziest footballer he’d ever come across.

So, how come?

Unlike some players who’d charge around looking busy for 90 minutes but contributing close to diddly-squat, Jimmy would look like he was on holiday for 89 minutes and then pounce for the kill while everyone’s back was turned.

And you know what?  I see tons of print collateral like the former and all too few like the latter.

Chapter and verse on the product in question until the reader is bored rigid. Whereas all it really needs is a tiny touch of magic to get those tills ringing.
