Give the Gift of Time: Make a Difference Today

As the year draws to a close and we look ahead to new beginnings, there’s no better time to consider how we can make a meaningful difference in our community. At Isabel Hospice, we’re excited to launch our Gift of Time campaign, which invites you to explore the transformative power of volunteering. Why wait until January 1st to make a change? Start today!

Volunteering with Isabel Hospice isn’t just about helping others—it's about enriching your own life. As we support individuals facing terminal or life-limiting illnesses, we also open up countless opportunities for volunteers to develop new skills, meet incredible people, and gain a true sense of purpose. Whether you’re able to commit a few hours a week or just a couple of hours here and there, we have a role for you.

Claire Hunt, Senior People Advisor at Isabel Hospice, shares ‘At Isabel Hospice, we believe in the power of community and the difference each person can make. Volunteering is a rewarding experience that creates a ripple effect of positivity. You will not only support our vital services but also enrich your own life in ways you may not expect.”

Isabel Hospice offers a wide range of volunteer roles to fit various interests, skills, and availability. From retail positions to patient-facing support, and from administrative tasks to hands-on care roles, there's something for everyone. Here are just a few of the opportunities available:

  • Retail Assistant – Volunteer across our 17 shops in eastern Hertfordshire. Help welcome customers, manage donations, and keep the shop floor stocked with quality items.
  • eBay Researcher – Research the history and value of donations such as antiques and vinyl records, preparing them for sale in our Hall Grove building in Welwyn Garden City.
  • Donation Sorter – Assist at our Donation Centre in Welwyn Garden City, sorting everything from preloved clothing to homeware, collectables, and toys.
  • Complementary Therapists – If you have experience in massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, holistic facials, or reiki, you can provide much-needed care to our patients in the In-Patient Unit and Living Well hub.
  • Gardeners – Help maintain the beautiful, peaceful gardens at the In-Patient Unit and Living Well Centre, a haven for patients and visitors alike.
  • Compassionate Neighbours – Reach out to individuals in your community who may be feeling isolated, offering friendship and support.

Volunteering at Isabel Hospice offers flexibility, with roles available seven days a week across multiple locations in eastern Hertfordshire. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and abilities, and no previous experience is required, training is provided for all roles.

In the New Year, we’ll be holding volunteer information sessions where you can learn more about the various roles, meet our teams, and find the best fit for your interests and skills. But if you’re eager to get started right away, there’s no need to wait. You can visit our website or get in touch with us directly to find out more.

Volunteer information sessions will be held on:

  • Tuesday, 14th January, 6pm-7:30pm at Bishop’s Stortford Rugby Club, Bishop’s Stortford
  • Saturday, 18th January, 10:30am-12pm at Living Well, Hall Grove, Welwyn Garden City
