When prospecting, give before you take.
How does it make you feel when you're on that first call with someone who wants to offer you a product or service and they immediately start pitching?
Lousy for sure.
A more productive way to approach your prospects for the first time is to give them something of value. Build credibility, create rapport.
You should do this first (give) before you ask them to move forward in the sales process (take).
