Give before you get!

Give before you get!

In episode 298 of the #WhoYaKnow Show, we invite Bruce Pulver and Casey Hasten.

Top Executive Recruiter Casey Hasten, spent over 20 years in the accounting space before finding her passion for helping others find their dream jobs. Today, Casey specializes in hiring practices and helping companies of all sizes learn to hire right the first time.

On the show, Casey talks about the reason for people to sign on to or leave a company. She says, " One of the things that I'm seeing is that as people are reflecting and having that time at home, they have reorganized their priorities. And they're no longer willing to stick it out in a toxic environment or in grinding out 80 to 100 hours a week. I'm talking to candidates every single day. That's what I do. I talk to candidates to get them hired with companies. And the first question I get is - Are they remote or at least hybrid?"

While telling us about the changes in job descriptions and hiring, concerning hybrid culture and work from home, Casey says, "There were definitely a couple of new questions that we are having to ask. We have to share the vaccination policy of the company. We can't ask them if they're vaccinated but we share that to see if there is a problem. And this is when we are talking to the clients too.?

What is your work life?

What does your balance look like?

Are you fully remote?

Are you fully in office?"

Casey tells us about her new planner, 'Awaken: Your Potential,' and we can use it to increase our productivity. According to Casey, "It's not just about productivity. It is really holistic, I would like to call it a workbook rather than just a journal or a planner. This had been a labor of love, a passion project. This workbook is everything that I have learned by going through coaching school, by just reading, by everything that I have done in life. I have really distilled it down into this one workbook and it is a lot. It is not for the faint of heart."

On the show, Casey also talks about some of her goals for 2022. She says, "The big three that came for me are, number one, I have got to promote the journal this year. And I'm doing that right now. Number two, there is going to be a book about it. There has to be. And the third thing was one I was a little nervous about was I was gonna do a TEDx talk. Boom! Everything started falling into place for me to get ready." While talking about putting yourself out there, Casey says, "Don't listen to the haters when they show up."

Bruce Pulver is a Global Speaker and Healthcare Executive who has worked in several corporate leadership positions. His TEDx talk helps individuals and organizations understand the power of words in driving outcomes and results.?

On the show, Bruce talks about reframing the mindset while being a jobseeker. According to him, "It's really easy to say- Why me? But I talk a lot about why not me. That job didn't come through. So what? Maybe it's not the first. But you either win that job or you get to learn something from it."

Bruce also tells us how important self-talk is. He says, "To me it's everything. It really is, because you're the only person that will ever hear every word you think or say. So think about that script in your mind. If you had to print it out, it was transcribed and printed out and hand it out to someone, would you? And would you sign it? I know for me, maybe not. Self-talk is the most important aspect to get yourself started."

Bruce shares some tips for the people who find themselves complaining and being negative. He says, "Sometimes, you gotta embrace it. You're going to have days like that. You just got to acknowledge it. Sometimes you gotta laugh at it. Don't let a bad day define you."

Bruce also talks about his book 'Above the Chatter, Our Words Matter.' While telling us about writing the book and what readers should expect from it, Bruce says, "First and foremost, I'm with my people. I have never turned in a letter of resignation and I have left three jobs. One morning after those layoffs, I woke up and in my mind, was pounding a single word. Bruce, you got to be strong. And there's a backstory. I was brought up in a family that was very grateful and very positive and just had an attitude of gratitude.

I wrote the word strong, vertically. And I looked at it. Seriously in 30 seconds, I looked at each letter and I wrote:?

Stand

Tall

Remain

Optimistic

Now

Go for it

Fast forward 420 consecutive mornings, I woke up with a divine download. God gave me these words. I wrote them and I started sharing them. Then I realized as I was getting messages back, that my give if you will, was being received by others and helping them. It had to be something more than a scribble journal."

?? Bruce at 13:04 - The give before the get, helps that networking step.?

?? Casey at 27:30 - We are seeing multiple offers right now. If companies aren’t moving quickly, that tells the candidate a lot about their internal processes that they can’t get their stuff together to move the process along.

?? Casey at 37:50 - The third thing that I put on. There was one I was a little nervous about was that I was going to do a TEDx talk. Boom! Everything started falling into place for me to get ready.

?? Casey at 38:05 - Get your ask in gear.

?? Trevor at 49:00 - I never lose, I just learn.

?? Bruce at 49:20 - Why not make that phone call? “Can I get five minutes of your time because what I really want to understand is, what didn’t separate me?” Because you never know what might happen.

?? Bruce at 51:30 - I call it, kick the ‘cants’ and untie the ‘nots.’

?? Bruce at 53:42 - Sometimes you gotta embrace it. You gotta say, “Sometimes days are going to be negative.” You can’t be this, like my kids call me Mr. Happy Pants. You can’t be that guy all the time, right?

?? Bruce at 58:00 - I’m so glad to see you today man. I’m bound and determined, and I’m bound for glory. It’s gonna happen. I’m gonna buckle down and do whatever it takes. I’m so grateful for everybody in this room for just holding me up. The support that I’m getting from everyone is amazing, and I’m so grateful thatI I’m not left alone.?

Bruce at 59:60 - First and foremost, I'm with my people. I have never turned in a letter of resignation and I have left three jobs. So figure out how that works.

Bruce at 01:00:20 - I wrote the word strong, vertically. And I looked at it. Seriously, in 30 seconds I looked at each letter and I wrote: Stand Tall Remain Optimistic Now Go for it.

Trevor at 01:01:00 - 7 Cs to cashflow, Consistent Content Creates Conversations that Convert into Careers and Cashflow.?

Bruce at 01:06:15 - We all have unique gifts. So we aren't gonna be just like the next person. We're going to have our skills, our own ways to do things, our own ways to look into things, our own approach, how we solve problems, how we face things. I call those GIFTS: God Installed Features To Share.

Tip of the Week - Trevor Houston

In order to get the conversation with the recruiter, engage with their content before you go into their inbox.

Go to their "all activity" section and that will tell if they're active.

If they're posting content, if they're doing stuff on LinkedIn, if they're posting jobs and stuff like that, you're gonna be able to see it and now there's actually a new feature called the notification bell ??

You need to go to their profile, click that notification bell, turn it on, and you will get notified every single time they post. And now you want to leave the first engaging comment.

When we teach a strategy on how to do that with video, it really stands out, gets their attention, and causes them to react and have a conversation.

Start following the people at the target companies you want to work for, the recruiters, the hiring managers that work there, and start ringing their bell.?
