Giuseppe Banfi, MIND: "With Federated Innovation, we bridge academia, research, and business"

Interview with Giuseppe Banfi, Scientific Ambassador of MIND Milano Innovation District and Scientific Director of IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio , about the district's future, the role of Federated Innovation, and upcoming opportunities tied to major international events.

What distinctive features make MIND an innovative ecosystem capable of creating effective synergies between scientific research, entrepreneurship, and public institutions?

The distinctive features include the ability to collaborate on shared themes among various anchors and between public and private entities, all brought together within Federated Innovation. This is a truly innovative model, especially in our country, focusing on technology transfer and the incubation of new businesses, which represents the actual bridge between academia, research, and business.

How does public-private collaboration among the district's Anchors support the implementation of large-scale strategic projects?

Cooperation occurs on topics of shared interest. This is the best condition to develop strategic, innovative projects that can be quickly translated into practice and brought to market.

What initiatives is MIND undertaking in preparation for the Olympics, and how will they help consolidate the district's role as a model of innovation and sustainability?

The Olympics are a unique and extraordinary opportunity to showcase the city of MIND within Milan. We must seize this chance to maintain and strengthen the many connections established over the years with consulates, research institutions, universities, and science parks in other countries. Arexpo is promoting the site, also renewing the themes of the Expo held ten years ago, while Lendlease has significant offerings for delegations. We are organizing various scientific events focusing on sports medicine and physical activity. Specifically, I’d like to highlight an extraordinary edition of Seed for Innovation in collaboration with Fondazione UniMI to promote ideas from young researchers.
