GitHub Portfolio Setup Guide

How to get your portfolio for free?

Yes, 100% free! ????

A portfolio would help you 10 times faster in landing your first job interview.

Let's have a look at this scenario; some random company posted a job for a qualified person with skills and experience. Two candidates let say A and B apply for the job. Person A attaches a CV that includes his qualifications, experience and some titles of previous projects. Person B attaches a CV and a portfolio in which some of his projects are displayed. Definitely, Person B would be preferred because of more authenticity. Let's see how you can set up your own portfolio.

Step 1: Sign up for a GitHub Account

Step 2: Fork special repository

A GitHub fork is?a copy of a repository (repo) that sits in your account rather than the account from which you forked the data. Once you have forked a repo, you own your forked copy. This means that you can edit the contents of your forked repository without impacting the parent repo.

Fork this special repository (Find fork button on top right corner). This will copy the special repository into your account. It's like you are copying the website from my account to your account. Optionally, you will see a star button alongside, click it if you like it ??

Step 3: Configuration

  1. Go to Settings and rename the repository name with your Username. Currently, it is "UsamaSarwar" because it's my username. ??
  2. Now, go back and open README.md file and modify it with yours. It's built with MarkDown Formatting Language. If you are unaware of how to edit it. Simply use StackEdit ??
  3. Don't forget to commit the repository after changes. If you forget it's like if you close your word doc without saving it ?? that is a horrible experience.
  4. Visit your profile at https://github.com/[Username] and you are done ??
