Git vs TFS for D365FO

Another great talk with Rachit Garg on Git Vs TFS. We talked about his view on Git Vs TFS/TFVC and answers some of common questions (or myths :) )

Below is Summary of discussion:

Git:

  • Now officially supported by Microsoft for D365FO. (X++ in Git)
  • Increasing number of implementations use Git instead of TFVC.
  • Git provides distributed version control, allowing teams to work offline and merge changes seamlessly.
  • Popular for open-source projects and collaborative development.

VFS:

  • Solves the problem of large repositories by downloading only what you need locally.
  • When viewed in the file system (e.g., Windows Explorer), it shows all folders and files with correct sizes.
  • Requires Git platforms that support GVFS.
