GIS - Delivering Value on Value
I don’t know if it’s a conference, symposium, seminar, forum or training event, or whatever, but URISA and IAAO continue to deliver value helping assessors, modelers, analysis, GIS professionals understand how to leverage their GIS investments and CAMA (computer assisted mass appraisal) data.?The GIS/Valuation Technologies Conference is a unique event that brings together an action-oriented group ?to learn new skills that they can take back to their offices and improve work, immediately.
With 28 hours of technical workshops, nearly 50 hours of technical sessions and 20 hours of hands-on GIS computer lab time, the 400 or so attendees walked away technically satisfied for sure.?The session and workshop content ranged from modernizing and updating technology to leveraging new valuation and visualization methodologies, to new citizen/taxpayer engagement expectations.
There was something for everyone from beginner to expert.?Many sessions detailed GIS capabilities for understanding valuation inequities, best practices for managing parcels, field operations optimization, state property tax oversight and leveraging capabilities from artificial intelligence.?Long time attendee Jim McCathern of Catalis said, “GIS Valtech is always a great place to connect with local mass appraisal and GIS professionals who want to modernize and improve service to taxpayers.”
Insightful keynotes from Las Vegas detailed the valuation, assessment and development environment of such a unique city.?Once known for gambling, entertainers, quickie weddings and other unique events, the city is transforming.?With many activities that were once only legal there such as sports gambling, are legal in many areas, Las Vegas is compelled to diversify.?From the Raider NFL football team to the Formula 1 Grand Prix coming in the fall, the transforming city is addressing valuation and assessment challenges.
The closing highlight of the conference was Dr. Andy Krause who leads Zillow’s Zestimate team.?AVMs (automated valuation models) continue to provide value to assessors.?Andy’s perspective and useful knowledge benefited all attendees.?If you haven’t connected with him, I highly suggest it.

1 年Brace yourself for this news Brent. The last time I saw you was in the United lounge in Franfurt airport. I went to the United lounge in Frankfurt airport on Sunday past. Execept the United lounge in Frankfurt airport is now one of the many Lufthansa lounges in Frankfurt airport. I'm gutted about this. Trying to get my head around this travesty.
