Girls MAP Cohort 6 launches in Cape Town
Girls Trip Tours
A women-driven travel ecosystem for social good. As seen in Forbes and National Geographic.
HOST: Girls MAP Foundation Inc is a registered non-profit and next-generation philanthropic collective inclusively championing women and girls initiatives across Africa and the Diaspora. We are currently focused on developing educational programs that teach girls future-proof skills and fund their pursuit of knowledge through scholarships.
AUDIENCE: Junior Achievement Africa at Fairmont High School (ages 15-17)
As I travel with professional Black women around Africa, we host mentoring days to connect with ambitious young girls. The idea is for us to learn more about the countries we visit from their perspectives, but also to leave a bit of ourselves in a new place. We give our time, knowledge, and resources in these sessions which are designed to inspire and encourage our mentees to live the life they deserve.?
I remember what it was like to be their age. And there is so much I know now that I wish I knew then. So many things I’m still learning and unlearning. The workshops are all about coming together in community and sharing a bit of ourselves with each other in the hopes that we all leave the room better and more inspired.
I want them to know that they are seen and even people they don't know can root for their overwhelming success.
ACTIVITY ONE: DREAM OUT LOUD
Prompt: "What is your biggest dream: the one that you are too afraid to say aloud and claim for yourself? What do you want for your life, friends, and family?"
Goal: Learn to articulate your needs and ask for help.
OWNING YOUR STRENGTHS
Since the girls were older and more confident than our usual 12-15 demographic, this was the first time I had them facilitate this section of the workshop. It was beautiful to see the girls proudly own their greatest strengths in a room full of their peers and mentors.

ACTIVITY TWO: LETTER TO MY FUTURE SELF
Prompt: "Write a one-page letter to your future self about your dream life."
Goal: Learn to dream with clarity. Go from dreamer to visionary.

Special thanks to our Cape Town-based mentors who supported the workshop:
