The "Girls Hooping In Brooklyn Before It Was Popular" Edition of The Newsletter...

The WNBA starts tonight and hoops played by women are about to make another big jump forward. Last week I found this picture in my grandmothers high school yearbook. This is the Archbishop McDonnell varsity girls team in 1929...Brooklyn was always ahead of the curve. Sometimes, not always, it is a struggle to find ten stories and watches and listens that we think you may like and have missed. Then we have this week at the beginning of May, where we literally cannot add and cannot get through the overflow of great content we find or send to us. So thanks. It's inspiring to get stuff and even better to find stuff. First, it is a challenging time on many college campuses these days. Still, this time of year of transition is nerve-wracking and exciting simultaneously, so regardless of the transition, CONGRATS to the parents, families, students, teachers, faculty, and staff who make this time of year so special. Embrace the change from kindergarten through grad school, especially as we head towards a deeper spring. If you want to add anyone, send along their email address to [email protected] or they can subscribe to the LinkedIn feed. We welcome the notes, the feedback and the content; please keep it going. Could you follow along as you like as well? Twitter is @Joefav, I'm on?LinkedIn and Facebook and Instagram is JoeFavKnicks. Thanks for all the support, and on we go;

Joe, great subject, I was following women's hoops before it was cool coming from the great state of Iowa. My blessed Mother - LaVonne - played the game when it was six on six three court girls basketball out of Manilla, Iowa. Irony on this one, she was a running center but only stood 4"11". And the great tradition of the Iowa Girls High School tournament included the court sweeper in modern times wearin Tuxedos and Veterans Memorial Auditorium rocked Satin Doll. The emcee for years and years and years was Drake University's own Jim Duncan with his special CALL..............The year was 1 9 and 4 2 and it was a cold wintery day in the northern part of iowa..........................Duncan was a legend at the tourney and the Drake Relays. In our household, there was only one time of year my Mother was in charge of the remote control and that was during the Girls State BBall Tourney. rwp[
