Giordano
Tom Parsons
London portrait and stills photographer, splitting my time between London and the Kent coast.
This set is taken for a portrait session a couple of days ago with a young Roman Giordano. I wanted to try a new approach to this session and use natural light.
I set up out side with back drops reflectors.. and pretty much my whole kit. I decided though that because of the time of day i wasnt getting the definition i was after, i had a good face infront of me and i wanted to make the use of it. In the end i settled for a mixed light set up 2x 500w strobes and available light. The main light i used a horizontally fixed over heaf 7ft parabolic to give me some definition and contours to the face. The second light was a very low powered deep parabolic to the left of the subject to fill in and soften any unwanted shadows. The backdrop was ambient natural light. Quite pleased with these new shots, for some reason i find processing for B&W very tricky. For this set i had a very clear idea of the look i was after so lit and shot specifically for the monotone style.. but the colour were not too shabby either.
