GIFTS

When I joined Microsoft I asked one of my peers on the leadership team about a recent highlight from their job. They mentioned being gifted the opportunity to meet an important celebrity. And it has been true that over my time as HRD I have met some celebrities.? My son was proud of my picture with Gareth Southgate and I was inspired by talking with Satya, a celebrity as well as the CEO.?

I also got some gifts. For my birthday one year a pair of trainers – see photo – which really made me smile. As someone who loves shoes my wardrobe has definitely expanded to contain a wide range of trainers, pumps etc alongside the heels. Some wonderful colleagues visiting the UK for a training course very kindly bought house warming presents when I moved last year, there was a cook book from the EMBRACE ERG, a pin from the Military ERG (which I hope I donated for!) and a certain amount of "swag"….

But as I reflect and say good-bye to Microsoft before starting my next role in a few weeks time (more on that later) I am mainly thankful for the gift of learning. Learning more about the technology sector, learning about how to make the global matrix hum and learning about the amazing good that a purpose driven organisation can achieve.

So, for those I met during this 3 and a bit years – thank you – and especially to my wonderful team and colleagues in HR. All experiences are a gift and I am very grateful.
