There’s a new buzz-phrase in town – the ‘right to switch off’
Concerns are being voiced about the effect unboundaried work has on businesses and their employees. New research* shows two thirds of workers feel powerless to fully manage blurred work-life boundaries, feeling compelled to check emails outside of work time, or feeling like they are unable to ‘leave work at work’.
Of course, if you can never fully switch off from work, you will wind up feeling stressed, anxious and ultimately burnt out. The result? An average of five days of sick leave a year lost per employee.
This means that on average, every single person in your company has to take an additional 5 days sick leave due to feeling unable to properly switch off. Costing your business thousands in sick pay and lost productivity.
A starting point to address this is to support employees to maintain work-life boundaries. Encourage them not to check emails outside of working hours; take all their entitled breaks, preferably away from their desk; and use their annual leave.
But for some people, switching off is not that easy. Even when they are away from work, their brains are going a hundred miles an hour and they just can’t stop thinking about all the stuff they need to do at work.
Some companies have realised there is a powerful tool available to help their employees physically and mentally unwind. To allow their thoughts to slow down, and their whole body to gain calm. To be able to completely switch off from the world around them.
Because listening to a therapeutic audio session has been proven to induce a wonderful sense of calm and relaxation. People who listen regularly to such audios sleep better, remain calm under pressure and are more creative and confident. The physical relaxation engendered while listening reduces symptoms of stress and anxiety and greatly decreases the risk of burnout.
MindMatters’ fantastic stress management programme gives your employees immediate and unlimited access to a range of brilliant therapeutic audio sessions. Each one designed to tackle the causes and symptoms of stress. And empower your employees to switch off completely.
And with the theme of next month’s World Mental Health Day being “It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace” now is the perfect time to gift your employees the gift to switch off!
