As we move into the holiday season, a time filled with connection and reflection, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it truly means to be present. Not just physically showing up, but offering your undivided attention, your energy, and your care.?
In a world where distractions are endless, the act of being fully present has become a rare and valuable gift. Whether we’re leading a team meeting, brainstorming with a client, or sitting down with loved ones, the quality of our presence speaks louder than any words we say.?
I’ve noticed how often we let our focus drift—checking an email mid-conversation, glancing at a phone, or thinking ahead to the next task. These small, seemingly harmless actions send a powerful message: “This moment doesn’t matter.” And when that message is repeated, it erodes trust and connection.?
But here’s the beautiful thing about presence: it’s within our control.?
I’ll admit, this hasn’t always come naturally to me. There have been times when I’ve let the busyness of life pull me in a hundred directions, leaving me feeling disconnected from what really matters. One of my biggest frustrations is when someone looks at their phone during a conversation, but the truth is, I’ve been guilty of doing the same. It’s a reminder that none of us are immune to distractions—but we all have the power to do better.?
Presence isn’t just about putting away devices or maintaining eye contact. It’s about showing others that they matter. When we are fully engaged in a conversation, we create a space where people feel seen, heard, and valued. And isn’t that what leadership—and life—is all about??
I recently worked with a business owner who was planning a special event for their restaurant. At first, their vision was so tightly controlled that it left little room for the team to contribute creatively. The result was uninspired and out of alignment with the restaurant’s values. Once we shifted the approach, encouraging the team to bring their ideas forward without fear of judgment, something amazing happened. The energy shifted. The creativity flowed. And the final result was better than anyone could have imagined.?
That’s the power of presence. It creates trust, ignites creativity, and brings out the best in everyone.?

As leaders, our presence isn’t just a gift we give to others—it’s the foundation of the culture we create. When we’re distracted, those around us will follow suit. But when we show up fully, we set the tone for deeper connection and collaboration.?
This season, let’s challenge ourselves to be truly present. Whether it’s during a team meeting, a holiday dinner, or a quiet moment with a friend, let’s put the distractions aside and focus on the people right in front of us. Let’s make them feel valued, because they are.?
And as we practice presence with others, let’s not forget to give it to ourselves. Take time to slow down, breathe, and reflect on what matters most to you. Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give is simply allowing ourselves to be in the moment.?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Have you experienced a time when someone’s full attention made a lasting impact on you? Or perhaps a moment when you were fully present and felt the difference it made? Let’s start a conversation about how we can bring more of this into our lives and businesses.?
With so much gratitude,?

P.S. The beauty of presence is in its simplicity. This season, let’s choose to be fully here—for ourselves, for our teams, and for the people we care about.?
