Can you gift everyone you meet?

During a recent trip to Europe, I gifted the young women working at our hotel.

Let's just call her Sofia. On the day of our departure, she greeted us with a big smile. "You have paid everything and you are all set. " That's a happy surprise, but we were ready to say our farewell.

"Sorry, you actually have about $30 tax balances that you will need to pay. " Sofia exclaimed a second later.

No big deal, we were happy to pay the taxes.

"Sorry..." Sofia apologized while we are getting out our credit card.

She swiped our card and it was all set.

"Sorry again..." as she handed back our credit card.

I probably would never see Sophia again. As a coach and women leadership speaker, I decided to give her a gift.

"Sophia, you are amazing! May I give you some unsolicited feedback? You don't need to continue to say sorry. Maybe the first time, but after that, you could change that to 'thank you...' there is nothing you need to apologize"

Sophia accepted the gift with a big "Thank you!". I gave her a gift that day that hopefully she can benefit forever.

Gift everyone....even if it's just a genuine smile.
