I love gifts from the heart …
?
Something from your authentic self, given with the intention of connecting and without expectation of reciprocity.
?
The crazy thing is that when I give without expectation of reciprocity, I always receive so much in return.
?
So, for me, they are the ultimate 2-for-1 special (and you know how I love a 2-for-1 special).
?
Last week, I offered a gift from my heart.
?
I was interacting with people like Judith who are struggling with the overwhelm, depletion, and frustration, that comes from being disoriented—dropping down from a service orientation (mindset) to a fix-it orientation.
?
So, I decided to offer a gift …
?
An assessment tool and guide I created to help people identify their mindset when it comes to caring for others, how that impacts themselves and those around them, and action steps that can be implemented immediately to move them closer to a practice (and a life) that renews and fulfills.
?
And I received a generous and detailed thank you DM and review from Ali Fakher, BSN, RN, which feels, to me, like a gift.
?
I have included excerpts from his testimonial below in case anyone reading this would like to receive it too.
I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for your generous gift and the thoughtfulness behind the Care Provider Orientation Assessment.

Your insights resonate deeply with my mission of empowering nurses, fostering leadership, and redefining the nursing profession as a strategic and science-driven field.
1?. Key Insights I Gained
Your breakdown of Fix-It, Helping, and Service Modes offers a powerful diagnostic framework that mirrors the clinical judgment process in nursing-identifying where we stand, reflecting on the root causes, and strategically choosing how we want to show up.
?? Fix-It Mode: This feels familiar to many nurses-taking on endless problems, feeling responsible for everything, and ultimately burning out.
?? Helping Mode: Nurses often operate here too, seeing themselves as "the strong ones" but unintentionally creating dependency instead of empowerment.
?? Service Mode: The highest energy state, where we co-create solutions, set boundaries, and uplift others as equal partners rather than rescuers.
Your TFB Loop (Thoughts, Feelings, Behaviors) is an eye-opening concept that aligns perfectly with my advocacy for system thinking in nursing. If we want to elevate our profession, we need to transition nurses into a Service Orientation, where they lead with strategy, sustainability, and self-awareness.
2?. How I Plan to Apply Your Framework
? Integrating it into my Leadership & Advocacy Work I will incorporate the Service Mode mindset into my LinkedIn content, encouraging nurses to shift away from Fix-It and Helping Mode. I plan to tie this framework to nursing identity transformation, demonstrating how it empowers nurses to lead strategically rather than reactively. I will use this lens to mentor and coach other nurses, helping them develop self-awareness, leadership presence, and boundary-setting skills.
? Personal Reflection & Growth I see how emergency nursing and leadership roles can sometimes push me into Fix-It Mode-I plan to assess my own tendencies and strengthen my Service Orientation. I will focus on setting boundaries, prioritizing sustainability, and ensuring that my leadership is empowering rather than over-functioning.
Your Care Provider Orientation Assessment is not just a personal reflection tool-it’s a leadership framework that can reshape how nurses see themselves. It has the potential to help nurses break free from burnout cycles and step into their power as equal partners in healthcare transformation.
I have devoted this next chapter in my career to supporting mission-driven, service-oriented healthcare providers and leaders to inspire themselves and others, and to achieve success in work (and life), without sacrificing their wellbeing.
So, if you, or anyone you know, would benefit from the Care Provider Orientation Assessment, please accept this gift from the heart. Just type “tool” in the comments and I will send the pdf guide and video tutorial to you via LinkedIn messaging.

2 周Maureen Metzger, this is the kind of ripple effect that makes real change happen. Your gift was more than a tool-it was an invitation to reflect, reframe, and reclaim how we show up as care providers. And the beauty of it? The value doesn’t stop with the person receiving it. When someone shifts from Fix-It Mode to Service Mode, everyone around them benefits-patients, colleagues, and the system as a whole. Thank you for creating something that challenges us to lead with awareness, intention, and sustainability. Grateful to be part of this conversation! ??
