The Gift of Employment

While everyone likes to open a bright red box with a big shiny bow during the holidays, the greatest gift many of us have is our independence and capacity to earn a living.

The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region’s Employment Services program has trained and helped facilitate employment for a record number of people this year: 104. The Arc NCR trains people like Stevie who works at the Great Wolf Lodge in Cecil County where she works in food prep for the kitchen staff. Stevie loves her job and even calls it ‘magical’. One of our Employment Navigators at The Arc NCR worked hard to find a good employer who would match well with Chih. Chih has a passion for plants and was looking for employment in the horticulture industry. He has now found a new job at Twisted Roots, an exotic plant company on North Main Street in Bel Air. Due to the employee training and community-based skills training opportunities, Chih received through The Arc NCR he has found a job he loves with room to grow in so many facets.

Right now, 48 people are in The Arc NCR training groups, learning skills that will help them prepare for job placement. More than 60 employers in Harford and Cecil County have opened their doors offering employment opportunities to people with differing abilities. Richard Mahoney, The Arc NCR Employment Manager explained,?"My hope for 2025 is to forge meaningful partnerships with local businesses in Harford County and Cecil County, empowering those we support to pursue their employment dreams. Together, we can create pathways to opportunity, transforming aspirations into reality and fostering a brighter future for our communities."

Our rate of employment for those with differing abilities is 27% higher than the national average. Still, The Arc NCR is always looking for additional employers who need to fill positions and may have an opportunity for a person currently in our training program. You can support our mission.
