The Gift of the Agile Mindset
Every month I’ve been giving up to 10 books away
Times are tough. I see more Agile Coaches and Scrum Masters struggling to find work. And even though the “agile is dead” posts have died down a bit, the overall vibe is the same. Big companies aren’t having it. They’re leaning into things like strictly following SAFe and treating agile like it’s a new set of rules, not a new way of thinking. They’re trimming costs, bringing people back into the office, maybe even reducing DEI programs, all kinds of things that have the potential to limit cultural growth, certainly in the short term.
Meanwhile, agile teams are still trying to work efficiently. Some have lost their Scrum Masters. Many have lost Agile Coaches. Almost all that have a Scrum Master know they are either stretched too thin or being stretched politically as they struggle to do what’s right and what the big bosses want.
I am a passionate Agile Coach who plans to spend my career fighting for teams and companies to bust through the resistance and find a path to the other side where agility becomes the norm and common sense wins the day. Maybe you can relate?
About two years ago, the collapse of the agile industrial complex began. Mass layoffs at Capital One and others began the landslide. Other financial institutions followed suit. I was caught up in the collateral damage as well and my contract of five years was not renewed.
Instead of immediately trying to get back out there to find a new job, my wife encouraged me to take the Summer off. She dubbed it “the Summer of Brian!” and I’m proud to have represented and embraced that Costanza reference, because during that Summer I managed to write the book “The Practical Agilist Guidebook” which serves as a statement of my beliefs and a few things I believe in adamantly. The Agile Mindset is more important than almost anything in the agile universe. And if I can help any agile teams that are struggling with the basics and the behaviors that lead to the Agile Mindset, I will gladly offer my support and experience.
If you know someone who could benefit, please send them this article or point them to the survey where they can enter to win a few copy of my book.
Thank you in advance! As always — Be Practical and Stay Agile!

2 周I agree Brian Link. With the right mindset, you can build an Agile organization from scratch. Without it, all the Agile practices in the world are just window dressing on an empty house.
