Gideon v. Wainwright

On this date in 1963 the Supreme Court decided Gideon v. Wainwright and found that every person accused of a crime is entitled to counsel, even those who cannot afford to hire private counsel. John Adams said "It’s of more importance to community that innocence should be protected than it is that guilt should be punished..."
