Gibtelecom employee granted Gibraltar Award in New Year Honours List

Gibtelecom employee, Edgar Triay, has been granted the Gibraltar Award in the New Year Honours list.

The award, granted to him for services to persons with hearing disabilities in Gibraltar, was presented to him by his Excellency the Governor, Sir David Steel, last week.

A valuable asset to the Building and Stores department, Edgar has been part of the Gibtelecom team for over 22 years. However, outside of work, Edgar has dedicated his time and effort to raising awareness of hearing issues, including becoming a founding member of the Gibraltar Hearing Issues and Tinnitus Association (GHITA). Suffering from Tinnitus himself, the association is one especially close to his heart.

The Gibraltar Award is granted to members of the community for extraordinary service and contribution across different fields, which in turn leads to the enhancement of life to those in the community - something which Edgar and GHITA strives to achieve daily.

Edgar was very touched to receive the award, saying:

"I'm over the moon and very honoured to having been considered and given this award.?I dedicate it to my team who together with me have managed to bring down many barriers faced by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Gibraltar.

I like to also dedicated it to my family especially my wife Joanne, my son Luke and my sister Raquel Cruz for their unconditional support.

I would like to additionally dedicate it to my employer Gibtelecom who have supported me and GHITA from the very beginning.

Finally I would like to thank to everyone who recommended me as well as the Gibraltar Honours Board and his Excellency Vice Admiral Sir David Steel for having?chosen me.?

In my opinion this award has vindicated the needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Gibraltar."
