Gian Andrea Inkof, Data Science Consultant at STAT-UP
STAT-UP Statistical Consulting & Data Science
Advanced Analytics, AI, Big Data, Machine Learning - Customised solutions including training since 2003 - Munich, Madrid
After his M.Sc. in Physics and M.A. in Classical Piano, Gian moved to Germany to pursue a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics at the KIT in Karlsruhe. There he also did a postdoc and then realized that it was time to change. He then developed knowledge in data science since it merges both his STEM and communication side. Gian loves the challenge of coding but at the same time communication, especially through (good-looking) visuals, carries a high priority. Gian is a highly social person: Cooking for his friends makes him happy. In the rest of his free time, he likes playing the piano, singing, watching stupid videos, playing video games, reading, and hiking.
?What’s your daily job at STAT-UP?
I have currently two roles. I'm performing analysis on data from a client and managing another project I'm involved in.
?Which project are you currently working on?
The project I’m currently working on is all about understanding human-based decision-making mechanisms occurring in certain public services. My role is to manage the project, coordinate my colleagues’ work, and perform the analysis of the data. For this purpose, I am using Python, R, and PM techniques.

What are the interesting aspects and challenges of the project?
Everything! Since I am new to this field everything is challenging. However, there are two main challenges. The first one is working with a large amount of unclear data, exploring them, formulating questions, and talking to the client. The second one is managing my team, which is highly composite and involves external members. I am tackling both challenges with hard work, clear communication, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone beyond my insecurities.
Finally, what makes STAT-UP special?
I am intrigued by the flexibility of roles, which is a result of flat hierarchic structures. Even if there are complex problems and challenges the working atmosphere always is nice and familiar.
