GHOSTS IN MY HOUSE
Jimmy Matlosz
"Help me, help you" make your next film production better, on time and on budget. I am a Cinematographer ?? Director ?? Screenwriter?? with 35 years experience.
I have a ghost in my house, actually I have a few, I know weird right. But even more weird is that they don’t do anything.? They just occupy space or don’t technically. They don’t open doors or windows, they don’t make eye contact, they don’t follow you or lead you, they are just there, waiting I guess? I swear I saw one last night, unthreatening, with as much presence and purpose as a dust bunny and yet, there they are. So what to do with them?? They don’t respond to my voice, text messages or emails, they don’t seem to acknowledge much, but knowing they are there is somewhat unsettling. You ask yourself what are they waiting for? What a weird non existence, just a state of limbo. It starts to make one wonder, if maybe, they aren’t here for me, maybe they are waiting for someone else to arrive? Someone who will give them purpose or opportunity? I don’t know? And as I write this, I am realizing how vulnerable I am being and that a few of my close and distant friends may start calling Bellevue at any moment, ordering a special jacket.? Maybe I’ll get a few messages on Facebook or a text or two, who knows? Probably not… I mean, you believe me right? Who is YOU in that sentence you ask?? Well anyone who fits the shoes in YOU that is. I’m pausing here to contemplate deleting the previous paragraph for concern that YOU may see me as a fraud, maybe an imposter, a person who pretends to be someone else, in this case someone who has ghosts.? Is that what you are thinking? Because it has crossed my mind. Am I really experience ghosts or am I delusional? I mean they don’t respond.
The previous paragraph was a test, actually a parable, I wonder how many folks checked out halfway through and blurted out, “this guy has lost it!”? For those of you who kept reading, I must define that this was merely an expression of some of the latest and more common concerns I have seen on social these days.? Hear me out: During these times, when some people are complaining about being too busy to those who are aren’t, comes a handful of posts and rants about Ghosters.? Many have a shared frustration concerning the masterful art of ghosting, which may in turn result in imposter syndrome in the innocent recipient. ?
Ah, so now you get my little yarn there, call it The Art and Craftiness of the Ghoster. I can guess that most Ghosters, as I have been informed, ghost to keep the door open. That just as a ghost in your house could haunt you and cause you to move out, Ghosters walk this fine line of being useful someday. Again kinda like dust bunnies, they are accepted as part of the scenery, we ponder the source, purpose and use, I know I have, not that I have any mind you.
So anyway as I am trying to express, I doubt Ghosters realize that they can have a detrimental effect on ones psyche’.? Their ninja like skills could be more impactful than a ghost who tells you to Get Out! At least with Get Out! You know what you should do and where the relationship stands, sure in movies people stick around, but that is a deeper psychological subtext that I don’t have the expertise to unravel. At the same time a Ghoster in limbo could make you go more crazy than a deliberate one, it can cause one to feel insecure, like an imposter maybe, make you question your sanity, purpose and worth. ?
Anyway, I am not here to preach, just sharing thoughts and anecdotes, maybe amuse 2 people. I pretty much know the Ghosters won’t react, it wouldn’t benefit them after all.?
We might just decide to tell THEM, to Get Out! ?

8 个月Oh man! I was ghosted BIG TIME by someone I had a solid working relationship with for over a decade, and it blindsided me so severely. That was a couple of years ago now, and it still stings. Your suggestion that it is their attempt to “keep a door open” is one I had never considered. However, I don’t imagine giving them a second chance to do it again!
ha! Well said
