Ghosts of AI Past: The Terrifying Truth About Untrained Security Leaders!

A recent study by General Assembly reveals that 58% of vice presidents and directors in the U.S. and U.K. have never received training in artificial intelligence (AI), with 46% indicating their companies lack an AI usage policy. While only 26% of executives believe AI may replace their jobs in the next decade, a substantial 79% think it could displace some employees. Notably, 62% of Gen Z workers feel their roles are at risk from AI, compared to lower percentages among older generations.

Despite recognizing the importance of AI for future operations, many leaders lack the confidence and skills to effectively utilize AI tools; only 42% feel very confident in using them without risking company data. Furthermore, 39% admit they lack the knowledge to choose appropriate AI vendors. Daniele Grassi, CEO of General Assembly, emphasizes the need for leaders to upskill in understanding the legal and ethical implications of AI to avoid potential data breaches and maintain competitiveness.

While 54% of leaders encourage their teams to adopt AI, less than half (47%) report regular AI usage among their teams, and only 16% provide consistent AI training. The survey included responses from 393 vice presidents and directors between October 10 and 23, 2024.
