Ghosting! New stuff by candidates? Or just SSDD*?

Ghosting! New stuff by candidates? Or just SSDD*?

Ok, I have been reading a lot about the "new" tendency for people to ghost on recruiters or employers. That is, a candidate simply drops off the face of the Earth in the middle of discussions, after an offer or even after a start.

Then I see a lot of comments to these articles by the candidates saying "recruiters, the (fill in the blank with expletive) deserve it! They have been ghosting us for years. The tables have turned!"

Well, the thing is, some recruiters have been not very professional human being by rudely not returning candidates calls, etc. And now, with supply/demand different, some candidates are doing the same thing to recruiters! Well, there are still recruiters doing the unprofessional ghosting to candidates, so at least we have not lost one form of behavior for another.

So its a party! Mutual jackassery!

It is not a new and different paradigm (never used that word; now I feel important) and no one deserves this. It is just people being jerks to people. In a few years or whatever, it will reverse. And reverse again. People do this in professional and personal relationships now and have since Homo Sapiens first crawled out of some genetic mix a couple hundred thousand years ago. It sucks.

To the few that read this post - please just be a bit better a person. Don't treat the recruiter/candidate or even other person with whom you are having an exchange, like disposable chattel. No clue if the old saying "what comes around goes around" really works. But being a jerk is just, well, asinine.

*SSDD - for some of us it is "Same Sh*t Different Day"; for some of us it is also "Single Sided Double Density". I have no idea why I wanted to say that.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Eric, I agree that it is a case of "Mutual jackassery!", and it is unprofessional for anyone to do it. That being said, I would also say that this practice is more than rampant among alleged HR professionals in all segments of business. It is proof in action that Job Candidates are not respected in the process by these professionals. Those same HR professionals are crying now because the tables have turned. Why don't we inject some respect and humanity into the process? #humanresources#employeeselection

Two wrongs don't mind a right.? I know I've spoken to recruiters and have done telephone interviews with companies only to find that it wasn't the direction I wanted to go.? I've made sure to always let the recruiter/HR person know why I'm walking away from the table.? "Ghosting", from any party, is just a sign of immaturity.

Eric, worse than recruiters are often the HR managers at actual mining companies.
