THE GHOST CATALYST
Have you ever heard this term before?
May be not!
The Ghost catalyst is a character(s) that has capacity and influence over others to make things move or happen, these individuals are in some cases known as level 5 leaders; they are in act behind the scene. They serve the purpose for the organization to move forward or backward!!
From the book “Good to Great by Jim Collins” there are different levels to reach a level 5 leader; many examples in different companies of those individuals who changed the course of business, introducing new methods and ways to get ahead; aren’t we all?
Though what about those who assume being Level 5 leader; but they are not; now come the use of the term I introduce today; The Ghost Catalyst.
Let me tell you a bit about them.
When we hear the term Ghost, the picture comes to mind, scary creature we don’t exactly know what is it or in which way it works, when you add the word Catalyst it gives feeling of acceleration, could be good or bad, depends on the purpose.
Who are we talking about here; is it YOU, ME, MANAGER, CEO, CFO, Chairman, Business Owner…etc I guess you will be confused who is The Ghost Catalyst; it is someone you do not directly interact with, though it has an effect on and can’t up stream. How difficult this could be?
In such situations The Game of Politics begins; how well do you play this game and does it always work; is there any other way? Here are few advices of how to handle The Ghost Catalyst:
1 – The Ghost Catalyst should only hear about you.
You don’t have to be in contact with; since the nature of Ghost prevails, your Ghost character is the one you need to transmit.
2- It doesn’t matter you do good or bad
Your internal indicators are not the measure of your progression or success; indicators should be obtained using your special surrounding sensors.
3- If you are in direct contact with your Ghost Catalyst be aware of the risk
The simple rule here is what goes around comes around; your submission to the influence could be the tool of digging your own hole; don’t talk too much only when necessary.
4- Do not expect appreciation
Ghosts are not able to talk, only through simple gestures you may or may not sense appreciation.
5- When you get impacted with The Ghost Catalyst Effect
Remember DO NOT EMOTIONALLY REACT it is useless and create more problems than solution, always have a plan B.
It is an interesting mind game to play, every time you think about this, it brings a different set of competencies; the question here would you:
- Aspire to be one?
- Be scared from one?
- Just accept being executed?
I think the answer to this question should first begin with another question!
