Is Ghana Worth The Hype?

Is Ghana Worth The Hype?

I spent 2 weeks in Ghana and had the best time exploring Accra, Cape Coast, Axim, and Ashaiman.

Wondering if you should truly visit Ghana after reading my previous letters? I've got you.

Yesterday was Ghana's Independence Day. Join me to celebrate this beautiful country. Happy Independence Day Ghana ????????

Now back to today's letter ????

“Esther, is Ghana really as beautiful as you make it seem”? My friend asked.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

I've spoken and written so much about my experiences in Ghana and many people are beginning to think, Ghana isn't amazing as I make it seem.

Ghana is a beautiful African country, situated between Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and Togo.

Ghana was the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to gain independence post-colonialism.

The capital of Ghana is Accra, and the country’s currency is the Ghanaian Cedi.

Starting my first international trip to Ghana made me experience Africa beyond the stereotypical pyramids, and safaris they’re known for.

In my opinion, there 4 core reasons why you should visit Ghana soon.

  • To experience the vibrant coastal cities
  • Diverse culinary and arts scenes.
  • To visit a prosperous African nation that hasn't been explored properly.
  • To engage with its painful but important history.

The last reason is special and personal to me. By listening to their history, I was able to retrace the emotional, physical, and spiritual journey of our ancestors. Ghana was a major hub for the Transatlantic Slave Trade and experiencing this side of history should be part of your travel itenary.

The people of Ghana are kind. Each day I go out to explore different places, I'm met with a lovely set of people who are always smiling and ever ready to help you.

So, if you're thinking of travelling Solo, then Ghana is a great travel destination. It's the perfect introduction to the African continent if you’re a bit wary because it’s safe, clean, easy to get around, and very historically interesting. Away from that, there are beaches, great food, and loads of culture.

The Aspect of Culinary.

Ghana has very great cuisines but if you want to explore the best taste, stick to the recommendations of the locals. Ghanaians are renowned for their version of jollof (a rice dish that is popular throughout West Africa). However, tell this to any Nigerian, and they will debate this point seriously, claiming Nigerian jollof is better.

It's the site of Ghana’s Independence Day festivities. The Black Star Gate is perfect for taking photos for the #gram ??

Nzulezo Community

The village on top water is a great tourist attraction you shouldn't miss out on visiting. The people are content, happy and there's an interesting history about the community.

There's also a cafè where you can have the sweetest smoothies ever.

Boti Falls. This set of waterfalls is a two hour drive from Accra, in the Eastern region of Ghana. It's a beautiful place, and you get to hike around the same vicinity.

I couldn't join in the hiking because I was wearing the wrong boots, and God forbid I fall off.

Cape Coast Castle: This place harbours the strongest and most emotional history of Ghana's ancestors.

Ankobra Bridge Resort: I fell in love with resorts after visiting here. It's not a popular area but it's perfect. The food, people, and the close by beach is everything you need.

Kakum National Park. If you crave a bit of adventure, then Kakum is for you. The park encompasses a rainforest that’s home to a slew of endangered animals and critters.

Accra City Mall: This place is a good place to relax and shop for groceries. I didn't explore much here because I needed to arrive at the airport on time.

There are a lot of places I visited that I can't possibly capture in this letter.

My aim with writing this, is to encourage you to consider vacationing in this part of the world.

Have you ever travelled to Ghana or thought about it? And to my Ghanaian folks, what did I leave out? Would love to hear your suggestions!

Please subscribe if you've not and share so more people can get to see the beauty of Ghana.
