Getting in Your Discomfort Zone: The Cadence Approach Spotlight April
Leanne Spencer
Global Keynote Speaker & 3 x Bestselling Author. I talk about personal sustainability, community and finding Cadence as the keys to high performance
How is your year shaping up? We've recently celebrated our 9th birthday here at Bodyshot Performance, a great milestone for us to share with you?????.
At long last we’re starting to see a few shoots of Spring, and I don’t know about you but I am craving some sunshine. Ironically then, we’re just back from an epic but gruelling trip to the Arctic run by?Ratrace. We covered 80km across 3 days across some very harsh and unforgiving terrain on fat bikes, cross-country skis and snowshoes but it was a brilliant trip. We’re now back at home recovering! If you’re interested in seeing a video of our trip,?click here?to watch (with thanks to fellow competitor Chris Davies for the video).
I do believe that pushing yourself into your?discomfort zone?is a healthy thing to do every now and again, provided you are in a healthy state (mentally and physically). For us, we do big physical challenges every couple of years and smaller challenges 2-3 times a year.
What about you? What’s your next challenge? It might not be physical but instead is about learning a new instrument, language or perhaps setting up an online dating profile if you’re single. A key part of developing resilience is getting uncomfortable, adapting and growing from it. Let us know what you’ve got planned, we’d love to hear about it.
April is Stress Awareness month, so throughout the course of this month, we're sharing content to help you optimise your work environment, destress and help you have more fun in life and work. Check out the latest articles below!
Enjoy the newsletter, and have a great month.
All the best.,
Leanne
In the news
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently granted accelerated approval to a new Alzheimer’s treatment called Lecanemab, which has been shown to moderately slow cognitive and functional decline in early-stage cases of the disease. Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive disorder that damages and destroys nerve cells in the brain. Over time, the disease leads to a gradual loss of cognitive functions, including the ability to remember, reason, use language, and recognize familiar places. It can also cause a range of behavioural changes. Lecanemab works by removing a sticky protein from the brain that is believed to cause Alzheimer’s disease to advance.
What I'm reading
The Forever Dog?by Dr Karen Shaw Becker and Rodney Habib. I love this book as it combines my love of dogs with biohacking and longevity tactics. It’s easy to forget our pets need the same standard of care as us and are subject to the same health pressures such as pollution, lack of light and poor diet. This book presents the science and intersects it with stories to make what is quite a large book really engaging.?

Stress Awareness Month: Apathy & Anhedonia
April is Stress Awareness Month, an annual event to raise awareness of the causes of stress and open up conversations about the impact it’s had on our lives. Stress poses a huge risk to our health; it can lead to a number of physical problems, including heart disease, digestive issues and insomnia, in addition to serious mental disorders such as anxiety and depression. So this month, we’re going to be talking about stress, how to spot it, and what measures you can take to avoid it.
Dealing With The Physical Signs Of Stress
The second part of our Stress Awareness Month series is all about exploring the physical symptoms. In the vlog above we discussed apathy and anhedonia: lacking motivation or ability to derive pleasure from something you once enjoyed. But stress doesn’t just alter our behaviour, it can affect our bodies, too.
