Getting Your Brand 'Out There'?

Getting Your Brand 'Out There'?

People talk about getting their brand 'out there' like it's throwing confetti or releasing pigeons, expecting everyone to applaud. Earning respect for your brand is much more important, and more complicated than just getting it 'out there'.

You can gain instant brand recognition by doing something careless in the market, like making the 6 o'clock news because one of your trucks (fully branded) got stuck under a bridge. It gets the brand 'out there' - but not in a good way.

It's much more interesting, profitable and sustainable to focus on ensuring your company and your products and services are solving your customer's problems and helping them capture opportunities in a way that is compellingly different from your competitors, so that:

  • your customer's will choose you, over all of the available options, including doing nothing, and;
  • they will actively refer you, and act as your brand ambassador and advocate in the market to promote your services

Then your marketing and advertising is a magnification of your expertise, rather than an expensive contest for 'share of voice' in a highly saturated and contested market, where everyone is yelling for attention.
