Getting Unstuck

Getting Unstuck

Feeling stuck in your job search? Like things have stalled? Just hearing nothing but crickets?

Many jobseekers are feeling this way lately.

Here are the 3 steps I recommend in this situation:

1. Stop. Remember the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.

2. Take a big step back. You need some distance so you can take some deep breaths and see the landscape more clearly.

3. Try something different. When you are ready, meet with a few of your trusted connections to seek their input on tactics and strategies. Listen carefully to them. Select a few ideas. Implement.

In my new talk called "Getting Unstuck," we start with these 3 steps, and then discuss several key ideas for getting things moving again including:

Pinpoint your Super Powers. Many job seekers are reluctant to "sell" themselves. Yet everyone has power skills that contribute to their success. Why not stop and take the time to identify them and work them into your About box here on LI, and in your answer to "Tell me about yourself."

Take small risks. Are you burrowed into your Comfort Zone, afraid to take the small risks that might lead to big rewards?

Reach out to others for input. One of the best moves you can make when stuck is to ask for input.

When stuck, go back to the drawing board. Visualize the situation you are in right now as well as the future you desire. Map out your resources and your obstacles. Then try something different.
