Getting "Unstuck" to Move on

It is perfectly alright to experience a range of emotions, from joy and contentment to fear and pain. Feelings serve an important purpose in our lives: they are messages which alert us to look more deeply into ourselves to understand how we think and feel and how we can make better choices that align with our authentic self.

While these emotions should be paid attention to, it is best not to linger too long in the darkness of our thoughts; instead, we must show ourselves kindness and bravery by stepping out of our comfort zone and developing new perspectives through practice, effort, and self-awareness.

We must remember that every feeling passes eventually; all it takes is a shift in perspective, awareness of how we react to any given situation, and fresh action steps rooted both in compassion for ourselves as well as mindful acceptance of past emotions.

This is one approach that may helps us move from just feeling emotion—which can be draining—to understanding what those feelings are trying to tell us about the present moment. In other words, although it's okay to feel emotion, don't stay too long in the darkness—use the experience to gain insight into your thoughts and feelings so you can take positive steps for your wellbeing.

This approach helps put you back in control of your life story once more by encouraging productive analytical thought rather than rumination on negative situations and experiences.

Embracing emotion need not be a cause for concern; when done mindfully it's a way for us learn more about ourselves so that we can become who we want to be.

In short, understanding that feeling emotion is ok sets us free – free from rigid compartments between “good” emotions vs “bad” ones; free from staying too long amongst the shadows lest we forget that brightness still fills up much of our days; free from relegating certain feelings due to social pressures or moral expectations.
