Getting Things Done

Getting Things Done

I sat down the other day and started listing all the projects I must do. The list was incredibly long and would take a significant amount of time to complete everything. How did this happen? I’m a hard worker, somewhat efficient with my time, and organized. I know how to say “no” and how to delegate. Things just kept piling up.

So how do you get more done, faster, while remaining effective and responsible, and ensuring the quality of your work? They say focus on the process, not the final product. When you put too much emphasis on the final product, you fall into the trap of idolizing the result. You begin to imagine it as this perfect end, which isn’t what it’s supposed to be, nor is it what will most likely take shape.

Life is messy and just about the time when you think you have it figured out, it throws you another “left-handed” monkey wrench. Leave things where they fall and before long you have a list as long as mine.

I admire those people who are always on top of things and have all their “ducks” in line. You know the ones, the “experts” who can juggle four things at the same time. The ones who have all the answers even before you have the chance to ask the questions. Who are always telling you about all the things they have done. You know the ones who have written eight “best-selling on Amazon” books, taken on their 100th high-paying client, and just got back from a two-month vacation in some incredible spot they want to tell you all about. Jealous anyone? Not me!

Cleaning out the garage and pulling weeds are the two most glamorous items on my long list. I keep telling myself, “One little thing at a time.” I will get things done and the list will get shorter. The TRUTH is that it doesn’t. It just keeps getting longer. What can or should I remove from the list that is not urgent or absolutely necessary? Nothing!

So how do you get things done, crossed off your list, or put in the “not necessary” column? I really want to know! No judgement or envy, just good solid advice. If you don’t know but have the same problem, I would like to know that also, so I don’t feel so alone. Thanks, in advance, for sharing!
