Getting in Sync for Good and Driving Results - Using the BASE Strategy Model

For an organization to function at its full capacity, getting in sync is a critical piece. Whether you have two (2) employees or thousands (1000+), this can be a challenge. It can feel like an impossible uphill climb or maybe even like herding cats! It really is not that hard if you have the right tool in place.

The best decisions in life (work or otherwise) that any of us make, are the ones in which we had the most information available to us and the one where we knew the right choice almost immediately. We essentially knew just how those around us would feel and/or decide. The choice is clear. The decision is easy and the results are positive. Can you remember just what had to line up for this to happen? Have you ever really just stopped to think about that? If this is the best way to make decisions, why don't we (especially in the work world) try to replicate this type of decision making as much as possible? Maybe we do, but what keeps us from being successful. Many decisions we make are "just another one of those decisions" that we have made so many times before. The hesitation in decision-making comes down to basically one thing. We worry about making the wrong decisions and would that decision be consistent with what the organization has done in the past/would support? The answer is embarrassingly simple. We have difficulty getting in sync because we didn't have the right tool. Until now!

I have spent much of my career examining just which parts of a decision or set of circumstances delay or cloud our decision-making. What I know is that getting in sync requires a fundamental understanding of what factors affect decisions and strategy direction. As on organizational leader I know I am charged with making final decisions and certainly have to and in a timely fashion. The problem is that many times the decision (even when correct) can create pockets of problems within the business or organization. Possibly even outside the business or organization. Not everyone was on board. Not everyone understood what factors went into that decision. Now, we are not charged with making the decision for popularity, but what if, however; you could make that same decision and the employees and stakeholders supported it simply because the factors that drove the decision were made very clear. Not only made clear just by you as the leader, but what if everyone had a role in setting up those decision making factors?

This is how the BASE Strategy Model works. The BASE Model is a triangle (3 sides) that consist of 1) Culture 2) Vision/Knowledge and 3)Principles/Values. When an organization uses the BASE Model, these three sides are the "identity" or the "DNA" of the organization. These three things drive 100% of the thinking and ultimately the decisions of the company. I do not mean that once the BASE is in place these things drive thoughts and decisions, instead I am saying that they already do today! The BASE within your organization already exists, its just likely not yet visible. Once it is, it creates a clear and concise picture for you and for everyone. The task is to create it collectively and then commit to understand what it takes to allow it to evolve as the organization evolves. Once the organization determines its BASE, all stakeholders (including employees and customers) are now consistently in sync and the positive synergy scenario discussed above becomes reality and your results become nearly automatic.

I created the BASE Strategy Model to help organize thoughts, planning and strategic direction for organizations large and small. The model is simply an organized way to focus and get in sync for the long haul. The days of strategic planning are all but over once you have committed to using the Base Strategy Model instead. This model never "expires" like traditional strategic plans do. It evolves in real time instead.

In summary, getting your organization in sync is your biggest barrier to measurable, consistent and sustainable results. We know that results all come down to two categories: Profitability/Asset Generation and Customer Defined Quality. The BASE Strategy Model allows organizations to get in sync and stay in sync by providing them with a long lasting model that replaces traditional strategic planning. Good luck getting in sync and creating great results!
