Getting Stuck Sucks!

Feeling stuck?
Under times of duress, it's easy to feel like our options have been taken away from us.
Feeling stuck sucks! What's the remedy?
One of the greatest powers we have, and one of the most often overlooked, is the power of choice.
Often, we can become so worried about the problem in front of us that we've forgotten about our power of choice. There is always a choice. Even if it's only a choice of our attitude.
I am reminded of a time that my company required mandatory training. Being in sales, I reasoned that I didn't make money while sitting in training, and therefore I didn't want to go to the mandatory training.
The classes we were required to go to seemed to have little to do with productivity at work. Most everyone was complaining and trying to avoid the class, but the company was insistent. But I decided there was no ROI for me sitting in the class, so I told my boss I wasn't going to attend.
And he told me I didn't have to!
He reminded me that I had a choice- I could attend, or I could work somewhere else.
While funny, it's true! It was my choice. I decided I liked where I worked and I chose to go to the class. Once I changed my mindset from I have to go, to I get to go- everything changed.
I decided to choose my attitude about the class.
Instead of looking at the class as a waste of my time, I decided to own my time. If I had to attend the class, I was going to accomplish one of three things:
1) Get something out of it.
2) Contribute something of value to it.
3) Both!
I embraced the training. I volunteered to lead it, so I could guarantee the time was valuable. The result was greatly rewarding, as it led me down a path to a new passion, and, ultimately, my first leadership position.
Try shifting your words from "I have to" to "I get to" and see how it changes your world. And remember when you feel stuck, ask yourself, "What are my choices?"
Because you see, everything is your choice.
