Getting stuck with inaction

I've partly written at least half a dozen newsletters before hitting the publish button of this one. All with different topics and different value to help you grow or streamline your business.

But none of these articles got finished because I've been stuck with inaction these last couple of weeks when it comes to writing.

Well, it’s more like in-complete action that is dragging out way too long!

I would get an idea, thinking "Yes! This is the one!" I would start writing it and then "bang!" The momentum and excitement for the idea gets lost in my head. In the process of writing it, I overthink it and decide it isn't good enough and start the process again.

Getting stuck on "getting it right."

It has been frustrating, unmotivating and simply annoying. Plus, the longer it has gone on, the more I was stressing over it and tripping myself up.

I sometimes get in this space and maybe you can relate?

For you, it might be sending an email to your community, or maybe it is another important action you are trying to do for your business like ... following up on potential sales or showing up online promoting your business, or maybe it is reaching out to someone who you could collaborate with to grow both your businesses.

These actions are important for growth but can feel really uncomfortable to complete, so it can be easy not to prioritise them. And if we do prioritise them, it can be easy not to complete them due to resistance, doubts, fears or being in a flat cycle.

After being in business for 22 years, you would think that I would have it all sorted and never get caught up in a limiting pattern!

But I do. Because I am human.

You see, no matter what level of success you get to, we can all have times where we trip over ourselves and slow ourselves down from moving forward. We get in our own way.

I never pretend to have it all together all the time. It’s important to me that the work I do as a business coach really helps people. Like real, tangible results in their business and life. But I can’t do that if I am not sharing some of the harder parts of my own business journey as well.

If I just show all the wins and successes and the “looking good” elements to myself and my business, well you don’t get to see the journey behind how I created those wins and successes.

It can just look like I am lucky, or it is easy all the time, and that isn’t truthful or useful to help your own situation.

Truth: Business can be really hard.

To be working in and on your business every month, striving for growth, striving for improvement. It’s hard work. It can feel overwhelming and never-ending. There are plenty of messy times, and quite frankly boring and unmotivating times too.

That stuff is also part of the business journey. Along with the wins and successes.

That’s often one of the downsides of social media: people will share their big exciting wins but don’t show what has happened and what they had to do to get there. It’s snapshot moments, but it isn’t the whole picture.
